Dixie Edalgo was valedictorian from rural Wilcox County High School in rural Georgia. She never got a chance to take an advanced placement course because none were offered and she never had homework. When she got to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College she found it hard to keep up with other students. “Sometimes I wonder to myself how I would have done at a school with people like that,” Edalgo said of valedictorians from urban schools. “I would have had to push myself harder.”
