The Midwest: Minority-Majority Youth Population In Rural and Exurban Counties

This is the Yonder's list of all rural and exurban counties in the Midwest that already have minority majority youth populations or that will be minority-majority soon.

The counties below are either currently minority-majority among those 20 or under or will soon tip to be minority-majority. They are grouped by state. These counties are in the South. If you would like to see counties in the West, go here. Counties in the South are here. All of the data below come from U.S. Census Bureau estimates from 2007.

The chart shows three categories of "minority majority status" for those in the county under 20 years of age. "2000" counties are those that were majority-minority at the time of the 2000 Census. "2007" designates counties that became majority-minority between 2000 and 2007. "Tipping" counties are those that are at least 40 percent minority among those 20 and under and where the minority population grew by at least 2.5 percent between 2000 and 2007.
