Native Americans have been farming and ranching for hundreds of years. Here is Louie Pierre, a farmer on the Flathead Reservation in Montana around 1920. Native American farmers and ranchers claim that USDA officials discriminated against American Indians. The U.S. government has agreed that the claims are valid and have set total compensation at $680 million. Black farmers have made similar claims and Friday the U.S. Senate approved the settlement in that case.
