Southern farmers will get a chance to hear the latest news on the Pigford Lawsuit this month during the Federation of Southern Cooperatives Land Assistance Fund’s Small Farmers Conference February 12 13 in Albany, GA.

The lawsuit, filed in 1997, is a class action suit that claimed the government showed preferential treatment toward white farmers when granting loans and assistance. The government settled the case in 1999, agreeing to pay $50,000 to all 2,000 of the original plaintiffs.

Attorney Rose Sanders, who has a long history of civil rights activism in the south, will provide the lawsuit update.
