Congress and White House Stuck on High Center
The stories today are of a federal government stymied, a situation that is holding up several pieces of legislation that directly affect rural America.
The Los Angeles Times has the big picture , showing that Congress and the President are at such odds that it is almost impossible to pass a budget that reduced the federal deficit.
The Des Moines Register reports that the White House is saying it won't accept the mandates for biofuels production set out by House Democrats. The White House wants the bill to include mandates that would include fuels produced from coal, not just corn or biomass.
On the other hand, Reuters reports this morning that there may be a deal on the farm bill. Cattlenetwork.com reported yesterday, however, that, "Unfortunately, there is no truth to the persistent rumors that Senate leaders have a deal to break the Farm bill deadlock."
