A farm, a family, a job, a child to raise — there are a lot of balls to juggle. But at the end, on a good night, there's a job finished, a happy child and a homemade pizza.

There are 195,000 more jobs in rural America this May than May 2011. But this added employment is not spread equally among the nation's rural counties.

For the first time in decades, it appears a Farm Bill will be passed that does not have a rural development component. And that raises the question of why Congress is so unresponsive to the 95 percent of rural people who do not farm?

The Obama administration released a report Monday on its policies and accomplishments in rural America during the President's first term in office. Rural equals agriculture in this report — and that leaves out the environment, worker safety, education and the hearings the administration held across the country on the lack of competition in the ag business.
