The 50 Most Republican Rural Counties

If you want to live in a county where nine out of ten of your neighbors voted for Mitt Romney, look west of the Mississippi.

Of the 50 rural and exurban counties that had the highest percentage vote for the Republican in the latest election, only two are in the East: Blount County, Alabama, and Leslie County, Kentucky. The rest are in the West, with a heavy emphasis on Texas, Utah and Idaho.

(Fun fact about Leslie County: Richard Nixon's first public appearance after resigning the presidency was in Hyden; at that time, Leslie County was the most Republican county in the country.)
